I remember seeing this on TV and it really does make you wonder why people are so obsessed with celebrity "culture" regardless of what a person stands for.
Ricky has always seemed like such a genuine guy, and to write and act such a poignant scene as this - the man has obvious talent.

I've got to thank Gervais for this scene... because of what he said i've stopped watching Big Brother that year and havent seen another reality tv show since.....unless you count the apprentice...which is more like a game show

The thing with comedy is, we judge the performers on how funny/likeable they are. Its easy to forget a stunning piece of acting. Gervais has easily got the talent and versatility to branch out into other stuff. As for whether hes a tosser, yes he is constantly 'ironically arrogant' in interviews ('whats that, 5 golden globes?'), and its getting a bit old now. But still an absolute legend.

A former American Idol contestant, Paula Goodspeed, was found dead of an overdose on Nov. 11 in front of Paula Abdul's house. I've seen the American Idol clip where she is "wheeled out to be sniggered at by multi-millionaires." It's brutal. Shame on American Idol. Shame on us for watching it. Kudos to Ricky Gervais for this amazing monologue.

totally. Reality tv, along with soap operas are a CONSTANT distraction.. they anchor people to there sofas night after night, gawping into the idiot box when they could be doing things to better there body and mind. Its TV to dumb us down, the governments/media want a nation of stupid people.

This is absolutely amazing and sooooo unbelieveably true- that show that Andy's on there is the perfect setting for this amazing monologue- a good for nothing rubbish show with Z List "celebrities" "trying to cut hair"- there are millions of shows like it and why would you waste your life watching that shit! I can't believe I've only just discovered this scene
