I agree that this movie is truly a classic... And that both movies were an adaption of the original book. Just like "Narnia" there are many old movies out there like this - but depending on the time the filming was done - the actors, effects, etc... You are going to no doubt see a different movie. I think that those who simply like the 1st better, just may have a warm spot for it - and that is OK too. LOL, Simply An-G

If people grew up with the original they tend to like it more than the new one. My kids like the new one better, I think the new one is creepy! But then again, so is Johhny Depp!!

The old one was just sooo good, I think it was just because Gene Wilder was in it and his subtle comedic moments are just awesome for any age, while the new one's audience seemed sort of limited.

I think each movie tried to capture a different aspect of the book and went "too far"; the 1971 tried to made it silly and cozy, which its own author evidently hated, and the new one made it very weird and eccentric, more like the book, but maybe too far--which is why many disagree.

The new one followed the story closer except it gave it a longer ending and explained the past of Willy Wonka. the old one well that's almost close except: no squirrels but geese, oompa loompas were orange with green hair, and an awesome yet unnecessary tunnel scene. The actors who play Willy and Charlie look more like they do in the book in the old movie. Johnny Depp looks like Willy if he really did live in the factory for 15 years.
