I loce the GSMRR. It's been a while since we've last been, maybe its because I told my mom we should wait until 1702 is back in service, so if she is back in 2008 like they say, then we'll be going. I love the Smoky Mountains in general and this is by far my favorite video/

Great video of a great locomotive. We ride the GSMR every year, and I miss 1702. Been all diesel excursions for a couple years now...hopefully 1702 will be back in '08!

Old 1702 is supposed to be back by fall of
'08, and #722 is supposed to be done by the end of '09. And did you hear about they are trying to aquire 2 turn tables? They want to become an all steam operation.

Thanks so much for posting. Took the Steam ride in August 2000 and loved it. Took the Murder Mystery Train 3 years later and it was diesel...not quite the same. Half the fun is getting here from the Gatlinburg side of the Smokies.

it'll be a blessing if it EVER gets back into service. The GSMR's in dire straits right now. I'm an employee in the Dillsboro Depot and they're shutting down my depot as of 8/8/08 and stopping any excursions from there (their popular Tuckasegee River Excursions and Dinner Trains) The poor 1702 has barely been touched since it went out of commission. They're so low on funds they've dismissed almost 40 employees...more may be still to come.

I hate hearing about anyone losing their jobs. I know the times are tuff for America, with that it hurts all industries. I did like the Dillsboro to Bryson City run. Hopefully things will improve with a new administration of the Presidency.

Unfortunatly the new owners of the railway have really ruined it. I go to school at Western Carloina University which is 5 minutes from the railway, or atleast it used to be. In august of this year, the railway pulled out of Dillsboro, where the train originally started. So now they don't even go through the tunnel or past "The Fugative" wrecj site. I was down in Bryson City a few weeks ago, and started asking questions and found that they don't have any plans to run 1702 again. Its a real shame

I had a comment on the Grand Canyon Railway that it to was bought out and the new owners retiring the steam locos and only running the diesels. I hate to say this but, steam is going away for many operations that cannot afford to run them any more. Yes, it is a real shame that the 1702 will not run again on the GSMRR.

I enjoyed the vidio. The whistle on the engine sounds like the one on the up844. I think that the up changed the whistle years back to the one thats on it now.
