It's not an oxymoron. A fact tells nothing except what happened. On a crime scene for example, a detective could see that there was a gun with prints of the victim, but in many cases that fact does not equal the truth of the murder. To find the truth they must theorize and investigate the likely, unlikely, and impossible to make sure to knowingly uncover the truth.
