In his Playboy interview just before his death, John Lennon said if he were to keep one song by The Beatles it would be this one despite the fact that it's a Paul McCartney tune.

I've heard that story, too, karmaman7, but Paul says he wrote this lounging around John's pool. (It WAS inspired by "God Only Knows," though. I think.)
Paul also said he was trying to sound like Marianne Faithfull on this song. And I think he may have succeeded. :)

Paul's solo career also produced some incredible songs, from "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "Every Night" to "Mr. Bellamy" (which, frankly, wouldn't have been out of place on Sgt. Pepper.) And John produced some twee drivel ("Oh, Yoko", anyone? "My Little Flower Princess"?)
The comparisons are pointless. Each man produced some amazing work on his own, and each produced some absolute crap. It's just that Paul's career has been much longer and more prolific, so he has more of both.
